Old Fashioned Audio Theater with Heirloom Audio Productions

I am part of the Homeschool Review Crew. All opinions are my own.

Remember the days were whole families eagerly gathered around the radio to listen to a thrilling adventure story? Me neither. That never happened in my generation and it was only during a little bit of my parent's generation. It seems like the things that make you use your imagination are fading away now. More and more people are addicted to technology and don't know how to just sit and imagine something without the help of an app. So when I was asked to review Heirloom Audio Productions' newest CD, In the Reign of Terror, I was curious on how it would work for our family.

Our entire family is pretty much technology based. My husband and I both work from home on the computer daily. Mary is a what I call a "techie" child because she owns so much technology and loves every minute of it. She programs video games and can sit for hours making a project on the computer. So for our family to actually sit and listen to something like an audio story, I wasn't sure how it would keep everyone's attention.

In the Reign of Terror

In the Reign of Terror takes place during the French Revolution. I actually had picked to review this because since I was a teenager, I have been very passionate about the French Revolution. It was a subject that was near and dear to my heart so I really wanted to hear a fictional audio drama based during it.

The story itself takes place after the American Independence but before Napoleon during the French Revolution. Harry, an English boy, is the main character and the story is told through his eyes. He travels to stay with an aristocratic but wonderful French family. And that's when the troubles begin. Soon the French Revolution is in full blow and anyone who has any noble lineage will be taken to the guillotine. An that includes the wonderful family that he is staying with.

I'm going to be completely honest in saying that we listened to this straight through because it was so enthralling! As a lover of Les Miserables, this is top ranking right up there with it. In the Reign of Terror made you really feel like you were right there during the French Revolution. The sound effects and acting were amazing! If you closed your eyes, you could imagine the soldiers outside your door wanting to take you to the guillotine. I even stopped my work to sit and listen which is huge for me. But for Mary, she actually listened to the whole thing and loved it. And I love that she used her imagination and learned a great bit about the history of the French Revolution.

Heirloom Audio Productions has produced many different audio theater adventures and you can even join their Live the Adventure Club where you can access bonus content like the E-book, Official Soundtrack, Printable Cast Poster and even the Study Guide.

Inside the Study Guide, you will have quizzes for each track of the CD which are great for homeschool, ways to learn deeper like finding certain places talked about on maps, and even recipes you can try out. The Study Guide is a great addition to the actual CD because it will help you learn and follow along even more. We plan to learn even more about the French Revolution with the books listed in the study guide as well. We love going to the library to find new books when we're doing  unit study so the French Revolution will be our next one.

Overall we were completely impressed with In the Reign of Terror and we can't wait for the next audio theater from Heirloom Audio Productions to come out!
