Fall Home Maintenance Checklist

Already in our house we’re getting ready for fall. I love when the air starts getting cooler and the leaves start to fall. And so does my husband since he can stop mowing our huge lawn. But that doesn’t mean his chores are done just yet. Now he has to get ready for the cooler months and what it brings for our house!

Of course like any other husband, my husband usually forgets what he needs to do for the cooler months so I like to make him a lovely list. And here are a few items that I keep on that list to make sure he gets done before winter hits.
  1. Weather Stripping Windows and Doors – Our house is an old farm house so making sure the cold air doesn’t get in is a must. We already have double insulated windows throughout the house but it helps save us more energy when we weather strip.
  2. Cleaning Your Gutters and Pipes – If your pipes and gutters are full, then water can’t run down them to get off your roof. And you don’t want water or even worse, snow, sitting on top of your roof unless you really want some leaks! Cleaning them in the fall will help you not get leaks during the winter.
  3. Trimming Weak Branches from Trees – When snow starts to fall, it’s best to not haave a lot of weak branches on your trees because they have more of a chance of breaking under the weight. Trimming them off during the fall is the best way to make sure they don’t break off from the weight of snow.
  4. Changing your Filtrete Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduction Filter (MPR 1500) – It’s always best to change out your home air filters at least every three months. And by the time fall comes around, you’ll want to changeout your air filter from summer! Changing it out during the beginning of fall will help reduce the allergens airborne from the air inside the house. Plus it can help lower the amount of energy needed to heat your house.
The Filtrete Healthy Living Ultra Allergen Reduction Filter (MPR 1500) is effective at capturing 90% of large airborne particles such as dust, pollen and mold spores from the air passing through the filter. And that’s great since most of us want to capture those things from our air!

So remember to change out your Filtrete filter before fall. You seriously don’t want to use the same filter you used all summer that captured stuff like this do you?
