If you follow me on Instagram, you'll have noticed that I have posted a lot of projects for Derwent Academy lately! I've been participating in a fun campaign with their products and I've been trying out a lot of projects. Here are some of the fun ones I've completed so far!
The first project I did was with the Derwent Academy Sketching Pencils. I did a sketch of an Oriole with just one pencil. I really loved how the definition of the shades could be changed so easily! This was one of my favorite projects for May!
For this sketch, I used only the 6B pencil which has become a favorite of mine. To change shades, all I had to do was either press softly or hard depending on what I was shading.
The next one I used the Derwent Academy Twin-Tip Markers. What is so great about these is that they are water based so if you use a little water with them, they turn into a controlled watercolor painting! I ended up doing a bird galaxy with them and had a blast!
How I did this was I first traced the outline of a bird flying on the paper. Then I took the black, blue and purple marker and lightly colored the inside of the bird in sections, leaving the middle blank. Then I took water on my paintbrush and added it to the paper gently which activated the markers. I blended them together with the paintbrush and left it to dry. Once it was dry, I took white paint and splattered it on the bird gently to give the effect of stars. For the bigger stars on the page, I used a white pen to create them.
Next I used the Derwent Academy Colour Pencils to sketch out the house finch couple that have made a nest on my porch. They are so precious so I wanted to make some sketches of them to remember their nest and eggs.
This was a basic sketch that involved showing the house finch family from start to finish at the time of drawing. I wanted to draw the mother and father and how I had found the nest originally and then how it gradually grew with eggs.I drew the sketches first lightly with pencil and then colored them in with the colour pencils. Then to finish, I outlined them with a fine tip pen to add details.
And of course, I used the Derwent Academy Watercolour Pencils in my nature journal for May. I really enjoyed using them because it was light enough to not bleed through my journal. This was used with the same way I used the markers. I sketched first and then gently added water to give it that watercolor effect.
Overall I'm super impressed with Derwent Academy and their products. Derwent Academy offers a full range of high-quality art products. Their products are perfect for aspiring artists, including students and hobbyists, who want to refine and develop their artistic skills.
