How to Make the Most of Your Morning Commute

No one likes to spend more time than is necessary for the car. However, when your day begins and ends with a long commute to and from work, you can find yourself driving for far longer than you would like during the workweek. This can be an incredibly frustrating scenario for anyone, even those who don’t particularly mind driving.

Unfortunately, most people’s commute tends to fall right in the heart of rush hour in most cities. This means that not only do you have a significant distance to travel in the car in order to get to work, but you can end up sitting in traffic for portions of that drive as well.

The good news is that it is possible to make the most of your time in the car so that it doesn’t simply feel like a waste of your day. You might need to get a little creative, and it is important to ensure that you are always obeying the rules of the road, but there are several things you can do in order to make the most of your morning commute.

Here are a few tips that can help you to do just that so as to have a more productive and useful morning drive into work.

Listen to a Podcast

Instead of spending your morning commute listening to the same six songs on the radio coupled with an endless string of commercials and advertisements, find a podcast to listen to for your drive into work. Podcasts can be played on-demand, and with so many in production at the moment, you have your pick of the lot.

Some podcasts are informative and uplifting, such as the Come follow me podcast, while others are more storytelling in nature and can provide you with an entertaining tale to follow. Once you have the right podcast selected, simply queue it up and hit play.

Make Voice Recordings

If you don’t really get much out of listening to podcasts or music in the morning, you can actually use your commute to have a think about the day ahead. Consider turning on the dictate function on your smartphone or other devices in order to take down some of the thoughts that you have while you are driving.

Don’t get hung up on exactly how polished your dictation is. These recordings or copies should simply be rough thoughts that pertain to the day or week ahead. You might even be able to sort out a tricky problem by brainstorming while you drive. Just make sure to still pay attention to the road.

Self-Reflect

Even though meditating while driving isn’t recommended, it is still possible to have some productive self-reflection during your morning drive to work. Take charge of your thoughts by having a constructive self-reflection session as you are heading to the office.

By getting yourself into a good mindset in this way, you will be more prepared for the day ahead and might even be able to sort out some issues that you have been having lately with your job.
