When I first noticed Mary was ready for potty training, I have to admit I was a little scared. Mary was my first and only child so I had no idea how to potty train someone. And before I had Mary, I had never even babysat kids so she was a first on every level. So just when I thought I was getting the hang of everything, I had to go through potty training!

When I first noticed Mary was ready, she would come tell me that she was wet or needed a change. Finally I wasn't having to chase down the smell in the house, or find where she was hiding! She was coming to me because she felt uncomfortable in her dirty diapers and that was the first step.

Soon after that point, I got her wearing Pull-Ups because I wanted her to notice the difference in them and diapers. I especially loved the cool feel ones because once she had gone, she felt very cold and didn't like it so it taught her to stop going in them.

At first, when I made her start wearing Pull-Ups, she would use them as a diaper. Of course this was so disappointing, but eventually as time went on, she started recognizing that she needed to use the toilet. But her problem was making sure to stop for a potty break.

Now that we've passed that stage, I can say that I overcame a lot of my initial fears of potty training. Most of them were that she was slower than other kids because she was older. My husband's parents would tell me I wasn't doing a good job with her but you can't make a child go when they don't want to! Sure, you can sit them on the toilet, but you can't force them to go. It has to be in their own time. And I learned this and overcame it. Eventually in her own time, Mary started coming to be to help her on the toilet.

Thanks to Pull-Ups, we received a fun package with Monsters Inc designs on it for Mary. And over the next few months, I'll be showing our progress with potty training. I think our next step is learning to wipe so I can't wait to make progress with her!

Pull-Ups helps take the scare out of potty training by making it fun and easy with new Monsters U character training pants! You can help make potty training easier by staying consistent and using rituals like the potty break. Make it a game and ask your toddler, “What does a little monster take?”…“A Potty Break!”
