3 Step Recipe for Hummingbird Food

This past weekend, we got two hummingbird feeders. I've never had them before so when I went to the store, I was tempted to buy the ready made red juice for them, but I heard it's not too healthy for the birds. So I decided to go home and make my own.  And it's incredibly simple too.

Homemade Hummingbird Juice

4 Cups Water
1 Cup Sugar
Red Food Coloring

Bring the water to a boil. Pour the sugar into the water and stir until it's dissolved. Once it's dissolved, remove it from the heat and add a few drops of red food coloring to the mix. Once it cools, put it in your hummingbird feeders.

Already, we've seen a few hummingbirds this weekend and we're so proud! Plus, this recipe is super easy and cheap to make. And it's much healthier for the hummingbirds too.

  1. I make this all the time, and am having to make double batches, on some days, because there are so many hummers coming by our feeders to drink.

  2. What a simple recipe, and I bet it is much cheaper than the store bought kind as well.

  3. Iam definitely going to make this. I love hummingbirds. Thanks for the recipe

  4. aout of curiosity, why the red food coloring? does it attract them?

  5. I am sending this link to my mom, she would enjoy making this and watching the hummingbirds eat.
