Gifts For the Home

Your home is supposed to be your castle, your sanctuary, the place that you feel the most comfortable in the world. Lately, though, it’s been feeling a little cramped, a little outdated and a little stifling.  You know that something needs to change, but you don’t know what. Here are some things that you and your family can do to make your house feel homey again.

Create an Inviting Entertainment Space
When was the last time that you updated your home’s entertainment system? Are you still watching basic cable on an older model television set? Why not upgrade? Flat and wide screen television sets have come down quite a lot in price over the last few years. You can also get a Smart television set which will cut down on the number of devices that you need to plug into your TV to access things like Netflix, Hulu, etc.
To that end, you should also take a look at your cable package. Are you getting the very best deal on your cable package? Search around, look at the direct tv deals and make sure that you are getting exactly what you want at the best possible price.
Electronics aside, how comfortable is the space for hanging out?

Form and Furniture
If your entertainment setup is squared away, what does the space feel like when you are in it? Does it feel overly crowded? Does it feel old and too worn in?
A new couch can really spruce up your home and make it feel more inviting and comfortable. You might consider splurging on one of the couches that have the built in reclining seats and the spaces for putting drinks or food. One of the best couches is the kind that has the chaise lounge on one side, which allows more than one person to stretch out comfortably on the couch at a time.

Function and Improved Capabilities
It might not be the most romantic gift to give to each other but splurging on a new appliance (or set of appliances) can really make you feel better about spending time at home.
For example, are you tired of your kitchen? Do you feel limited because your current appliances are older and base models? Splurge on a new refrigerator, oven and range set. A kitchen that is fun to cook in, particularly if you both enjoy preparing meals, can actually feel quite romantic once everything is installed and you’re able to create the beautiful meals you’ve always dreamed of.

Dressings and Decorations
Have you thought about decluttering and bringing in some new decorations? Maybe you can buy a few buckets of paint and spend a weekend repainting the interior of your home together. You can also redecorate with smaller items—new throw rugs, new pillows for couches and chairs, newer art (or art prints) for the walls, etc.
Updating and remodeling your home might not seem like the most romantic thing to spend money on when you want to buy a gift for someone you love but creating and improving the good feelings within your home is definitely something that is worth the expense.

I agree that appliances (though definitely sexist if the lady doesn't want them!!) can be a great gift!

Love this article! This is so true sometimes just changing the decor or throwing some new paint on the walls can make your home like brand new without the expense of buying new furniture.

It's so easy to get in a rut - it's amazing what a bright new piece can do in a room!

While some women might be opposed to receiving appliances as gifts, I love to cook and would enjoy receiving something for my kitchen as a gift. I also agree that spending money on making your home something to be proud of is a great gift for a couple to give to each other.
