Building a new home is a decision filled process. The number of things that you have to decide is astronomical. It all starts with the different things you are thinking about putting in. Here are some of the things that you should definitely consider installing in your new home.
A Home Security System
It might seem premature to start thinking about your home’s security while the home is still being built. The truth is that it is never too early to start planning. For one thing, if you know that you’re going to be installing a system you can help your electrician make sure that your house is pre-wired to accommodate it. You can find out more about security systems at www.homesecuritysystems.com.
Green Measures
You already know that you should be using green and sustainable building materials. Have you thought about installing a few solar panels to help you reduce your energy costs? Energy efficient windows, good insulation, low flow toilets, faucets and showerheads, energy efficient appliances, eco-friendly flooring, tankless water heaters, and paneling in the walls—all of it can help make your home more green.
Another good reason to install these things is that they will qualify you for a bunch of different tax credits and deductions.
Technology and Automation
One of the best things you can do is install some home automation systems. Some of these things, like keyless door locks and window locks are going to be a part of your security system. Others, like programmable thermostats and appliances are not. Home automation can save you thousands of dollars every year because you can set the system to automatically turn out the lights in the house when you push a button (no matter where you are when you push it).
You can program your thermostat to keep the house at a certain temperature or to turn off a/c units and heating units when you aren’t home. You can use it to cut power to appliances you aren’t using when you aren’t home (but that don’t need to remain on 24/7) like your oven and range, etc.
Your Yard
Building your own home doesn’t end with the house itself. You also need to think about your yard. If you live in a hotter climate you might consider putting in a pool. If you live in an area that is more arid you might want to go with a grassless yard. Using your yard to grow food like herbs, fruit, veggies, etc instead of grass is a great idea. If you love the idea of a green lawn, consider installing Astroturf. You won’t need to water it, so you’ll save tons of money on your water bills every month. And you won’t have to worry about mowing it or maintaining it to a Homeowners Association’s standards.
Beyond this, you also need to figure out things like cabinetry, trimming, what kind of lights to put in (LED are best), what kind of appliances to buy (energy efficient, of course) and which kinds of furniture and decorations to buy. It’s easy to get overwhelmed but if you stick with it, you’ll have a beautiful and environmentally friendly and incredibly safe and protected home before you know it!

Do you have any home automation systems built into your home?
This is so true. My mom & step-dad had their home built a few years ago and they had to consider all these things like the yard and home security system along with other things. It was a LOT involved. In fact they had get there yard redone because it wasn't done to their liking from the builder.
